NON-INTERLOCKING WORK IN FULL SWING FOR EXTENSION OF PLATFORMS FOR ACCOMMODATING 12-COACH EMU TRAINS AT SEALDAH

Kolkata : For commissioning of electronic interlocking with dual VDO system from RRI Panel alongwith provision of 12-car rakes for platform nos. 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5 of Sealdah Main station, pre-non interlocking & non-interlocking work is continuing at Sealdah yard which will continue till 9.6.2024. To facilitate this transformation of Sealdah station for running 12-coach EMU rakes can be brought into service of the passengers over Sealdah Division Main & North sections for comfortable journey of the commuters with additional seats. This non-interlocking work is aimed to improve the train movement, reduce congestion, enhance passenger convenience and safety by optimizing platform utilization and boosting overall operational efficiency.

The work for this work is commenced in full swing which involves well coordinated activities of various departments like Traffic, Electrical, Signal & Telecom, Engineering etc.

Due to this non-interlocking work, 147 services out of 806 will be short terminated & short originated. The short termination/origination of suburban trains will mostly be at Dum Dum Jn. & Dum Dum Cantt. Four pairs of mail express trains viz. Sealdah – Ajmer Express, Hateybazare Express, Sealdah – Balurghat Express and Sealdah – Asansol Express will originate/terminate at Kolkata station instead of Sealdah station. Sealdah – Lalgola passenger will also terminate/originate from Kolkata station instead of Sealdah station.

Out of 21 platforms at Sealdah only 5 will remain suspended till completion of this non-interlocking work and remaining 16 platforms will be in operation. 806 suburban train services will continue to be in service during the period.

The non-interlocking work is a crucial part of Eastern Railway’s modernization effort. A total of about additional 400 skilled staff are working round the clock for this non-interlocking work despite the ongoing heat wave. For any major work it is well known that today’s pain is tomorrow’s gain. Similarly, after the non-interlocking work the extended platforms 1 to 5 of Sealdah station will be a step ahead towards accommodating 12-car trains thereby providing passengers with more sitting arrangements and comfortable travel experience. Passengers are requested to bear with this minimal inconvenience caused & support this noble task which will ensure a safer, more efficient and comfortable travel experience in future.
