BSF Arrests Bangladeshi Wildlife Smuggler with Dead Monkey and Bear Cub at India-Bangladesh Border

Kolkata: The vigilant soldiers of Border Outpost Gobardha, 102nd Battalion, BSF, under South Bengal Frontier foiled the smuggling attempt of wildlife smugglers on the international border of District- North 24 Parganas in West Bengal and caught a Bangladeshi smuggler.

According to the information, the soldiers of Border Outpost Gobardha had increased vigilance based on the information given by the intelligence department. At around 09:30 pm, the jawan on duty on the handheld thermal imager saw 03 smugglers carrying sacks coming from Bangladesh towards India. The jawan immediately informed the jawans on duty in ambush.

The soldiers had just started surrounding the smugglers from all sides when two smugglers took advantage of the banana plantations and dense crops and fled towards Bangladesh and one smuggler started running towards India. The soldiers surrounded the area and immediately arrested the smuggler who had entered the Indian border. After this, the company commander immediately reached the spot and a thorough search of the area was done and two sacks were recovered. A dead monkey and a dead bear cub were found inside the seized sacks.

The seized dead animals and the arrested Bangladeshi smuggler have been handed over to Swarupnagar police station for further legal action.

Even before this, the BSF has been foiling wildlife smuggling on the India-Bangladesh border on many occasions and has arrested smugglers. Repeated attempts are being made by Bangladeshi smugglers to cross the Indian border and smuggle, which shows that Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) is completely unsuccessful in stopping the smugglers and Bangladeshi smugglers are repeatedly trying to smuggle into the Indian border by breaking the security ring of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).

Through constant vigilance and coordinated action, BSF remains at the forefront in efforts to combat illegal wildlife smuggling and preserve endangered species.
