Kolkata: The Kidderpore Jagannath Mandir came alive with spiritual fervour and cultural vibrancy as it celebrated Rath Yatra 2025 with great splendour. The annual chariot festival, one of Hinduism’s most revered traditions, commenced with a grand procession from the Jagannath Temple in Kidderpore to Northern Park, Bhawanipur — where the deities will reside until July 5.

The sacred journey, marked by joyous chants, colourful decor, and devotional enthusiasm, featured the traditional Chhera Pahanra ritual — a symbol of humility and divine service — performed by Ram Gopal Bansal, Chairman of BMW Industries Ltd. This act of reverence added depth and meaning to the event, embodying the spiritual values the festival upholds.
Accompanying the majestic chariots were vibrant Kirtan Mandalis, along with the energetic Ghanta-Shankh Badan troupe, sponsored by the Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre (EZCC) under the patronage of the Government of West Bengal and the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India.
The streets of South Kolkata were filled with joy, devotion, and cultural harmony as thousands of devotees and visitors gathered to witness this divine spectacle — a reflection of Kolkata’s living heritage and deep-rooted spirituality.
This year’s Rath Yatra not only honoured ancient traditions but also celebrated the enduring spirit of unity and faith that binds the community together.
