Techno India University Hosts Grand Convocation Ceremony for 2025

Kolkata: Techno India University, West Bengal, held its grand Annual Convocation Ceremony 2025 at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre, conferring degrees upon more than 2,000 students, including Doctorates, Postgraduates, Gold Medallists, and Undergraduate recipients.

The ceremony was graced by Padma Shri Dr. Sanghamitra Bandyopadhyay, Former Director of the Indian Statistical Institute, who delivered the Convocation Address. In her inspiring speech, she urged students to strive for excellence in research and innovation while remaining rooted in ethics and empathy.

Also present as Guests of Honour were Jagdisha Bhat, Country Head – IBM, and Sanjay Jain, Head of Google Education, India, who shared insights from the forefront of industry and technology, enriching the ceremony with perspectives on the future of education and work.

D.Litt. Honours for Eminent Personalities

One of the highlights of the convocation was the conferment of honorary D.Litt. degrees upon several eminent personalities for their exceptional contributions in diverse fields:

  • Padma Shri Hariharan – Indian Music
  • Dr. Arunachalam Muruganantham (“Padman”) – Social Entrepreneurship & Sanitation Innovation
  • Padma Vibhushan Dr. Raghunath Anant Mashelkar – Scientific Research & Chemical Engineering
  • Padma Bhushan Rajeev Sethi – Design & Scenography
  • Padma Shri Shubha Mudgal – Indian Classical Music
  • Dr. Sumantra Chattarji – Clinical Psychology & Mental Health Advocacy
  • Asma Khan – Culinary Anthropology & Cultural Preservation
  • Dr. Hrishikesh Kumar – Neurology & Medical Contributions
  • Padma Shri Aparna Sen – Indian Cinema

Leadership Speaks

Delivering his address, Professor Dr. Goutam Roychowdhury, Chancellor of Techno India University and Founder Chairman of Techno India Group, encouraged graduates to lead with integrity, resilience, and empathy.

“The knowledge gained here will open many doors, but it is character and compassion that will truly guide them. Success is not measured by titles but by the difference one makes in society,” he said.

Professor Manoshi Roychowdhury, Co-Chancellor of Techno India University and Co-Chairperson of Techno India Group, highlighted the resilience of students and the inspiration offered by the distinguished awardees.

“Our D.Litt. recipients are living embodiments of passion and excellence. Their journeys will continue to inspire our students to pursue purposeful ambition,” she noted.

Mr. Meghdut Roychowdhury, Executive Director and Chief Innovation Officer of Techno India Group, emphasized the university’s AI-first curriculum, developed in collaboration with global leaders like Google Cloud and IBM.

“It’s not just about mastering technology—it’s about using it to create solutions with meaningful, lasting impact. The future belongs to those who adapt quickly, think critically, and innovate,” he said.

Prof. Samiran Chattopadhyay, Vice-Chancellor of Techno India University, reminded students that the true value of education lies in contributing to society and driving progress for all.

This year’s convocation stood out not just as a celebration of academic excellence but as a platform of inspiration, where students were encouraged to embrace innovation, uphold empathy, and lead with purpose.
