Dhakuria Unit Launches Manipal Institute of Diabetes; EM Bypass Unveils ‘Sugar Monster’ to Raise Awareness

Kolkata : Manipal Hospitals Kolkata observed World Diabetes Day with two significant initiatives — the launch of the Manipal Institute of Diabetes at its Dhakuria unit and an engaging diabetes awareness campaign at the EM Bypass unit.

The Dhakuria event marked the inauguration of a dedicated institute bringing together leading endocrinologists, including Dr. Sujoy Ghosh, Dr. Amal Kumar Sinha, and Dr. Monojit Ketan Mukhopadhyay, among others. The new facility aims to provide comprehensive diabetes care through early diagnosis, advanced treatment, and patient education.

At Manipal Hospital EM Bypass, an awareness session highlighted lifestyle management and prevention. The event featured the unveiling of the ‘Sugar Monster’, a creative installation revealing the hidden sugars in common foods. The initiative, complemented by the release of a Diabetes Awareness Booklet and Poster, sought to make diabetes education more visual and engaging for the public.

Dr. Subhankar Chowdhury, Senior Consultant and Head of Diabetology & Endocrinology, emphasized that modern diabetes care now focuses on prevention and empowerment alongside treatment.

Olympian shooter and Arjuna Awardee Joydeep Karmakar, who attended both events as Chief Guest, lauded Manipal Hospitals for taking diabetes awareness beyond hospital walls, promoting fitness and informed lifestyle choices.

Both Manipal Hospitals Dhakuria and EM Bypass buildings were illuminated in blue, symbolizing solidarity with the global World Diabetes Day observance and the hospital’s continued commitment to diabetes awareness and care.
