Eastern Railway Railway

Kolkata: Sealdah Division of Eastern Railway successfully carried out a large-scale ticket checking and inspection drive on the Sealdah–Lalgola section under the leadership of Principal Chief Commercial Manager Dr. Uday Shankar Jha and Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Jasram Meena.

The special initiative, which realized Rs. 2,25,000 in revenue, aimed not only at ensuring ticket compliance but also at fostering responsible travel habits and improving cleanliness across stations. A total of 306 cases were registered during the drive, mainly against passengers travelling without tickets, carrying unbooked luggage, or violating cleanliness norms such as spitting on railway premises.

Dr. Jha, apart from monitoring the drive, also carried out a detailed inspection of passenger amenities. He interacted directly with commuters to gather feedback, engaged with vendors at Naihati station regarding beautification initiatives, and inspected goods sheds along the route to explore areas of improvement that could enhance operational efficiency for both Sealdah Division and Eastern Railway.

Commenting on the initiative, Rajeev Saxena, Divisional Railway Manager, Sealdah, said:
“This special drive is about more than penalizing offenders. It is an important step toward raising awareness and encouraging a sense of responsibility among passengers. Our primary objective is to educate travellers about the necessity of carrying valid tickets, following luggage rules, and maintaining hygiene in railway premises. These measures are essential for ensuring safe, clean, and comfortable travel for all.”

The successful execution of this drive reaffirms Sealdah Division’s ongoing commitment to building a fair, accountable, and passenger-friendly railway environment.
