New Delhi : The Indian Army has secured the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) for its newly designed Coat Combat (Digital Print), marking a significant step forward in its ongoing drive toward modernisation, indigenisation, and improved soldier comfort.

The new design follows the earlier introduction of the Digital Print Combat Uniform. Rolled out in January 2025, the New Coat Combat represents the Army’s commitment to adopting advanced and future-ready combat clothing systems.

Developed by the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), New Delhi, under guidance from the Army Design Bureau, the coat features a three-layered construction using advanced technical textiles and an ergonomic design aimed at enhancing comfort, mobility, and efficiency across diverse climatic and tactical environments.

The design has been officially registered with the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trademarks, Kolkata, under Design Application No. 449667-001, dated 27 February 2025 and published in the Official Journal of the Patent Office on 07 October 2025.

With this registration, the Indian Army now holds exclusive ownership over both the design and its digital camouflage pattern. This ensures legal protection against any unauthorised manufacturing, reproduction, or commercial use. Any violation will attract legal action as per provisions of the Designs Act, 2000, Designs Rules, 2001, and Patents Act, 1970.

Three-Layered New Coat Combat Ensemble

  • Outer Layer: Digitally printed camouflage coat designed for durability and concealment across various terrains.
  • Inner Jacket: Lightweight, breathable insulated layer providing warmth without limiting movement.
  • Thermal Layer: Moisture-controlling base layer for thermal regulation in extreme weather.

The New Coat Combat marks a significant leap in integrating combat readiness with greater comfort and protection, highlighting the Army’s continuous focus on innovation, transformation, and soldier welfare.

This IPR achievement further strengthens the Army’s commitment to design protection, self-reliance, and the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, aligning with its long-term roadmap under the Decade of Transformation (2023–2032).
