Myanmar Army Commander Lt Gen Ko Ko Oo Visits Eastern Command Headquarters in Kolkata

Kolkata : Lieutenant General Ko Ko Oo, Commander, BSO-1 of the Myanmar Army, along with a four-member delegation, visited Headquarters Eastern Command at Vijay Durg, Kolkata.

The visit formed part of the 7th Army-to-Army Staff Talks (AAST) between India and Myanmar. Prior to Kolkata, Lt Gen Ko Ko Oo also visited New Delhi, Agra and Gaya as part of his official tour.

At Fort William, the visiting delegation was received by Lieutenant General Ram Chander Tiwari, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Command. The two leaders held discussions on enhancing bilateral defence cooperation, with a special focus on cutting-edge technologies, capacity building, and measures to strengthen security along shared interests. Lt Gen Ko Ko Oo lauded the professionalism and dedication of the Indian Armed Forces during the interaction.

As part of India’s continued commitment to Myanmar’s defence modernisation, the Indian Army has been supporting initiatives aimed at boosting digital training capabilities and improving information management within the Myanmar Army.

The visit not only reaffirmed the longstanding friendship between the two armies but also reinforced India’s resolve to advance regional peace, security and stability through defence collaboration with Myanmar.
