Civic Volunteers Foil Daring Robbery Attempt in Nalhati, Birbhum

Birbhum : A daring robbery attempt was thwarted by civic volunteers in Nalhati, Birbhum, on Wednesday morning, rescuing three passengers, including a child.

Anup Mondal, a resident of Borjora village in Rampurhat, was traveling with his wife and son from Jibonti , Berhampur, to Rampurhat. They stopped at Mor Gram bus stop, where an impostor army jawan struck up a conversation in Hindi and offered them a ride, claiming he was headed to Rampurhat.

Upon reaching Nalhati, the fake jawan and his accomplice, a fake customs officer, stole valuables, including a gold ring, ₹2000, and an ATM card. The passengers were dropped at Gopalpur petrol pump.

With quick thinking, Anup informed nearby civic volunteers, who alerted Shish Mohammad, Humayun Kabir, and Morsalin Sheikh. These volunteers chased and intercepted the car at Lohapur market, apprehending the driver. The car and driver were taken to Lohapur police station, but the fake customs officer and fake army officer escaped.

Nalhati police are currently searching for the absconding accused, reportedly residents of Uttar Pradesh.
