Kolkata : Breast cancer is second most commonly diagnosed cancer across the globe. About 01 in every 12 women are predicted to be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. But, there is hope. Advancements in early detection methods and support have definitely increased chances of survival. When caught in its earliest & localized stages, the 05 year relative survival rate of breast cancer is 99%.
Sealdah Division has observed Breast Cancer awareness Month at B.R.Singh hospital auditorium in gracious presence of Dr. Subhashis Das, Medical Director B.R.Singh and Dr. Santanu Sen, Consultant Oncosurgeon.
Theme of this year’s celebration is – No one should face breast cancer alone, emphasizing on timely Medical help along with emotional support for the survivors. The program was conducted by Dr Mandira Banerjee, under guidance of CMS Sealdah Dr Kalpana Mandal.
In her introductory speech, Dr Mandira Banerjee emphasized on early detection and timely treatment of Breast cancer. Dr Sanjay Sen, Consultant Oncosurgeon/BRSH discussed on the Salient features of breast cancer along with the risk factors like smoking, drinking, exposure to added colors in food, exposure to Radiation etc. Dr Udita Deo PGT/Gynecology demonstrated breast self examination in detail.
In his concluding remarks, Medical Director, BRSH encouraged everyone to stay informed, perform self examination and to seek help without any hesitations. The program was attended by doctors, Asstt. Nursing officers, Nurses, Attendants, Patients, their family members and PGTs.
The program was indeed enriching and it was appreciated by all attendees & is expected to improve health literacy amongst all.
