Kolkata: Ballygunge Railway Station, a vital transit hub in Kolkata, has undergone a significant transformation into a clean and green area at its second entry point (New Booking Office side), previously plagued by severe littering and encroachment. This initiative, spearheaded by the Sr. Divisional Commercial Manager, Sealdah Jasram Meena has successfully reclaimed the area for passenger convenience and enhanced its aesthetic appeal.
Meena took the lead in addressing the long-standing issue of accumulated garbage and continuous littering by commuters. A crucial first step involved engaging with and convincing encroachers to vacate the station premises, allowing the space to be utilized for the benefit of passengers.
Following this successful negotiation, under the guidance of the Divisional Railway Manager, Sealdah Rajeev Saxena, a tree plantation drive was organized at the site on the occasion of World Environment Day. This greening effort has not only beautified the area but also significantly improved the overall environment of the station’s entry point. To ensure the long-term upkeep and maintenance of the newly planted trees and the cleanliness of the area, Divisional authorities have collaborated with a local NGO.
This successful endeavour at Ballygunge Station underscores Sealdah Division’s commitment to providing a cleaner, greener, and more passenger-friendly environment for the commuters who use its services daily. Sri Saxena, DRM Sealdah further urged to passengers, Please do not litter the station premises, this is your property. Let us all work together to protect it.
