Kolkata: In a heartfelt celebration of World Music Day, Manipal Hospital Saltlake has announced a pioneering move to introduce Music Therapy for patients battling neurological disorders. The initiative was unveiled through an emotionally uplifting programme curated by Dr. Ansu Sen, Senior Consultant – Neurology, where doctors, caregivers, musicians, and patients came together to experience the healing harmony of music.

Graced by eminent vocalist Indrani Sen and renowned musician Shamik Pal, the event underscored how rhythm, tone, and melody can complement conventional treatments in managing conditions like stroke, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s. Both artists emphasized the emotional and psychological benefits of music, praising the hospital’s forward-thinking step towards holistic neuro care.

Dr. Ansu Sen highlighted that music therapy is not a replacement but a powerful complementary tool in healing. “We want to create a therapeutic space where recovery is not just physical but emotional,” he said.

Backed by global research, the programme aims to aid speech, movement, cognition, and mental well-being in neuro patients, while also fostering emotional resilience and better quality of life. With over 56 million Indians affected by depression (WHO), this initiative reflects a compassionate, integrated approach to healthcare—where science meets the soul.
