Barrackpore: Displaying exemplary spirit of “Unity and Discipline”, the cadets of 48 Bengal Battalion NCC embarked on a remarkable Cycling Expedition on 06 September 2025. The dual-leg event was conducted with the aim of promoting fitness, adventure, patriotism and national integration.
One team of Senior Division cadets from Barrackpore Rashtraguru Surendranath College pedaled from Barrackpore to Kalyani, covering nearly 50 km under the mentorship of Associate NCC Officers and Army Instructor Staff. Simultaneously, another team cycled from Basirhat to the Gojadanga International Border Outpost as part of the “Seema Darshan” initiative. The Barrackpore leg was flagged off by Brigadier Vipul Dutt, Commandant of Barrackpore Base Hospital, while the Basirhat leg was jointly flagged off by the Dy Superintendent of Police (Traffic), Basirhat District, along with a Junior Division cadet of Basirhat High School.
The expedition concluded with a Flag-In Ceremony at NCC Academy, Kalyani, presided over by Brigadier Shantanu Dash, Sena Medal, who distributed medals, certificates and mementoes to the cadets. He lauded their courage, stamina and patriotic zeal while emphasizing NCC’s role in spreading the message of fitness, adventure, national integration and Sadhbhavna (Goodwill) among citizens.
Enthusiastic villagers, students and youth gathered along the routes to cheer the cadets. During the journey, participants also visited the prestigious 507 Army Base Workshop to learn about the Corps of Electrical & Mechanical Engineers, toured a local Jute Mill, undertook Tree Plantation and Swachhta Abhiyan along the Hooghly riverbank, spread awareness on the menace of drugs, and paid homage to statues of Freedom Fighters.
The Seema Darshan leg concluded with a Flag-In by Assistant Commandant Sujit of 102 Bn BSF, who inspired the cadets to imbibe the spirit of adventure and service.
This initiative showcased NCC’s consistent efforts to shape the youth of India into responsible citizens and disciplined leaders. The sight of uniformed cadets cycling with pride stirred great motivation among onlookers, especially youngsters, to embrace the NCC and contribute towards nation building.
