Kolkata : In a major step to enhance passenger safety and security ahead of the high-traffic Puja season, Sealdah Division has successfully operationalised the initial phase of its dedicated ‘War Room’ on 26 September 2025. The move underscores the Division’s unwavering commitment to ensuring a secure and seamless travel experience during one of the busiest times of the year.
With millions of Puja pandal hoppers and festival travellers expected to use the railway network, the newly established War Room will serve as the nerve centre for real-time operational vigilance. Its primary aim is to empower the Sealdah Division to proactively manage the festive rush and respond swiftly to any operational or security-related incidents.
Features and Role of the New War Room
The current setup of the War Room is a powerful technological hub, designed for maximum situational awareness and rapid decision-making:
- Unified Live Surveillance: Provides consolidated live video feeds from over 2,200 CCTV cameras installed across the division, integrated through the Video Surveillance System (VSS).
- Centralised Monitoring: Cameras from 12 clusters cover critical stations and rail sections, ensuring complete visibility across the network.
- Real-Time Crowd Management: Enables live monitoring of passenger movement, helping staff detect congestion and prevent overcrowding or potential stampedes on platforms and concourses.
- Informed Decision-Making: Offers a holistic view of operations, allowing the divisional command structure to respond instantly to unusual occurrences, emergencies, or security threats.
- Future Scaling: While currently focused on live monitoring and safety, the system is designed to evolve into a comprehensive War Room capable of managing major accidents, natural disasters, and other exigencies.
