Taxi Theft Cases Cracked: Bhowanipore Police Arrest Serial Offender, Recover Stolen Vehicle

Kolkata: Bhowanipore Police Station has successfully cracked a series of taxi thefts reported between 10 and 16 November 2025. Through sustained surveillance, CCTV analysis and intelligence-based operations, police arrested a habitual offender and recovered one of the stolen taxis.

Three Taxi Theft Cases Registered in a Week

Between 10 and 16 November, Bhowanipore Police registered the following cases under Section 305(b) BNS:

  • Case No. 361, dated 10.11.2025
  • Case No. 367, dated 15.11.2025
  • Case No. 369, dated 16.11.2025

The taxis linked to Case No. 361 and Case No. 367 were found abandoned the next day on Manoharpukur Road and Mahim Halder Road. Police initiated a detailed probe by analysing CCTV footage and activating their source network to identify the culprit.

Accused Arrested After Continuous Pursuit

On 19 November 2025, acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted a suspect on Kali Temple Road. During questioning, he identified himself as: Rajkumar Sardar @ Raju @ Hasa (23)
Native of Village Godabar PS Joynagar, South 24 Parganas. Currently residing at: 31/1 Kali Temple Road, Kolkata.

During interrogation, he revealed crucial information about the concealment of the taxi stolen in Case No. 369 (16.11.2025). Based on this, he was arrested later that night.

Stolen Taxi Recovered from Gurupada Halder Street

Following his disclosure, police recovered the stolen taxi (Reg. No. WB04F4031) from in front of 32 Gurupada Halder Street, Kolkata–26. The vehicle was confirmed to be the one involved in Case No. 369.

On Wednesday, the accused was produced before the CJM Court, Alipore, South 24 Parganas.

Accused Linked to Another Taxi Theft Case

Further investigation revealed that Rajkumar Sardar is also involved in another taxi theft case registered under Tollygunge Police Station:

  • Tollygunge PS Case No. 278, dated 11.11.2025, under Section 303(2) BNS

Police are continuing to probe whether he is connected to other vehicle theft incidents across the city.
