Kolkata : Calcutta Girls’ High School marked a historic milestone as it celebrated 170 years of academic excellence and its enduring commitment to empowering the girl child with a grand cultural evening at Princep Memorial Ground. The event highlighted the institution’s remarkable legacy of shaping confident, compassionate and socially responsible young women through value-based education.

The celebration was graced by distinguished dignitaries including Reverend Bishop Dr. C. Selvin, Chairman, Calcutta Girls’ High School; Sudip Bandyopadhyay, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha); Swarna Kamal Saha, MLA; and Imran Zaki, Secretary, St. Stephen’s School. The presence of Basanti Biswas, Principal & Secretary of Calcutta Girls’ High School, further elevated the significance of the occasion.
The evening began with a powerful introductory dance symbolising grace, courage and the evolution of womanhood, followed by an address reflecting on the school’s illustrious journey of nurturing empowered young women for nearly two centuries.
The cultural highlight was the dance drama “The Benediction”, a moving tribute to trailblazing women who have inspired generations within the school and society at large. The audience lauded the performance for its storytelling, emotional depth and stirring message of resilience, empowerment and leadership.

The programme concluded with soulful musical presentations, culminating in the National Anthem sung collectively—symbolising unity, pride and the school’s timeless values.
