54th Senior Men’s National Handball Championship 2025 Begins in Chinsurah

Hooghly : West Bengal emerged as the nerve centre of Indian handball as the 54th Senior Men’s National Handball Championship 2025 was ceremoniously flagged off at the Netaji Subhas Sports Arena, Priyonagar, Chinsurah, Hooghly. The prestigious six-day national tournament will continue till December 20, 2025, showcasing the country’s finest handball talent in a celebration of skill, discipline, and sporting excellence.

The championship is being jointly organised by the West Bengal State Handball Association (WBSHA) in collaboration with Techno India Group, under the aegis of the Handball Association India (HAI). With world-class infrastructure and a growing sports ecosystem, Chinsurah is hosting a national handball event of this scale for the first time, marking a significant milestone for the region.

A total of four international-standard championship courts have been set up at the state-of-the-art Netaji Subhas Sports Arena. Teams representing States, Union Territories, Services, and Boards have been divided into eight pools, with the top two teams from each pool advancing to the pre-quarterfinals, followed by knockout rounds leading to the finals.

The tournament carries high stakes, as the top eight teams from this championship will qualify for the upcoming National Games in Meghalaya. Additionally, standout performances during the event will play a key role in Asian Games team selection, adding an extra edge to the competition.

Expressing his happiness, Satyam Roychowdhury, Managing Director, Techno India Group, said,

“I am extremely happy to bring a national-level sporting event of this magnitude to Chinsura, my birthplace. I sincerely hope this marks the beginning of many more major championships being hosted here.”

Anandeshwar Pandey, Secretary General, Handball Association India, remarked,

“It gives me great pleasure to see such an important championship being organised at such a beautiful and well-equipped venue.”

Asit Majumdar, MLA, Chinsura, said,

“It is a matter of pride that a major sports university has come up here and is beginning its journey with a national championship of this stature. I congratulate Satyam Roychowdhury and wish the tournament great success.”

Ram Chakraborty, Mayor of Chandernagore, added,

“Hosting an event like this is a proud moment for the entire region. I congratulate everyone associated with making this championship a grand success and commend Techno India Group for establishing such an impressive sports university here.”

Echoing similar sentiments, Tapan Dasgupta, MLA, Saptagram, termed the championship a landmark moment for the region and extended his best wishes for its success.
Soumitra Ghosh, Chairman, Chinsura Municipality, wished the participating players all the very best and congratulated Techno India Group for its continued growth and contribution to sports development.
