Kolkata: Kolkata-based voice artificial intelligence company Mihup is emerging as a key contributor to India’s growing voice-led digital ecosystem, strengthening adoption across automotive, BFSI and contact centre sectors with technology built specifically for Indian users.
Founded in 2016, Mihup derives its name from the phrase “May I Help You Please”, reflecting its core philosophy of making technology more intuitive, inclusive and accessible through voice. The company was established by Tapan Barman and Biplab Chakraborty to address a fundamental gap in India’s digital landscape, where most platforms have historically been English-centric and dependent on typing—often excluding large sections of the population.
Built entirely in Kolkata, Mihup’s proprietary voice AI platform is engineered to understand Indian accents, regional dialects and code-mixed languages such as Hinglish and Benglish. These capabilities differentiate Mihup from many global voice technologies, which are largely designed for Western markets and struggle with India’s linguistic diversity.
Early Focus on Core Technology
In its initial three years, Mihup concentrated exclusively on building its core voice AI technology stack, well before voice AI and generative AI gained mainstream traction. This long-term technology-first approach has allowed the company to develop a mature, enterprise-grade platform.
Today, Mihup supports multiple Indian languages in live production, with several more currently in advanced testing as part of an ongoing language expansion roadmap aimed at broader national adoption.
Presence in Automotive and BFSI Sectors
Mihup currently operates across two primary verticals—automotive and contact centres.
In the automotive sector, Mihup’s offline-capable in-car voice assistants are deployed in over one million vehicles on Indian roads, enabling drivers to interact with vehicle systems safely without continuous internet connectivity. Tata Motors is the company’s largest automotive client, with solutions tailored to Indian driving conditions and multilingual users.
In contact centres, particularly within the Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI) sector, Mihup’s AI solutions analyse 100 per cent of customer calls. The platform enables real-time agent assistance, faster and more accurate audits, improved regulatory compliance, and enhanced customer experience through advanced voice analytics, agent-assist tools, and conversational voice bots.
Focus on Security, Privacy and Compliance
Security and data privacy form a critical foundation of Mihup’s enterprise AI architecture. The platform supports offline, online, and hybrid deployments, allowing enterprises and OEMs to host solutions on their own infrastructure when required.
Mihup complies with global standards including ISO certifications, GDPR, and SOC 2, ensuring enterprise-grade governance and data protection. Its AI models were initially trained on publicly available audio datasets and later strengthened through structured data from paid contributors, enabling high accuracy across diverse accents, languages and real-world conversational contexts.
Vision Ahead
Looking forward, Mihup aims to position itself as an operating system for voice-based interaction across devices, enabling seamless communication between humans and machines across industries. While India remains its primary market, the company continues to invest in building Kolkata’s growing AI ecosystem, contributing to the city’s reputation as an emerging technology and innovation hub.
Commenting on the company’s journey and outlook, Priyanka Kamdar, Head of Growth, Mihup, said,
“Mihup’s growth is driven by a simple belief that voice is the most intuitive and inclusive interface for a diverse market like India. Building from Kolkata, we have focused on solving large-scale, real-world challenges for enterprises and automakers, while staying deeply rooted in Indian languages and use cases. As adoption accelerates, we remain committed to scaling responsibly and creating meaningful impact through voice-led AI.”
With strong regional roots, enterprise adoption, and an India-first approach to language and accessibility, Mihup continues to shape how voice technology is being deployed at scale—making digital interaction more natural for millions of users across the country.
