Pune: COEP Technological University has strengthened its engineering education and research ecosystem with the establishment of an Ansys Digital Twin & Multiphysics Lab in collaboration with Synopsys and CADFEM India.
The laboratory was set up at the COEP campus during the 2026 Symposium following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the partners. The initiative aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry by providing students, faculty and researchers access to advanced engineering simulation technologies.
The new facility will provide access to Ansys digital twin and advanced multiphysics simulation software for academic learning and non-commercial research. The collaboration is expected to promote experiential learning, interdisciplinary research, innovation and stronger industry-academia engagement.
Speaking about the partnership, Gilles Eggenspieler, Director, Global Academic Program, Synopsys, said engineering is increasingly becoming software-defined, with simulation and digital twin technologies playing a central role in product design and validation. He said the collaboration would help prepare the next generation of engineers for the evolving requirements of global engineering and innovation.
Prof. Sunil Bhirud, Vice Chancellor, COEP Technological University, said the university strongly believes in combining academic excellence with industry engagement. According to him, the collaboration with Synopsys will strengthen the university’s research and learning ecosystem while promoting innovation, interdisciplinary research and practical engineering skills.
Training, Certification and Research Opportunities
As part of the partnership, students and faculty will have access to Ansys Innovation Space, physics-based simulation courses and certification programmes. Up to 100 students will have opportunities to pursue certifications.
The initiative will also include expert lectures, technical workshops, Faculty Development Programmes (FDPs), mentoring sessions and industry interactions. The partners will further support collaborative research projects, technical publications, internships, outreach programmes and coursework using Ansys simulation learning resources.
CADFEM India will provide technical enablement and support for the academic initiatives.
The collaboration is expected to equip students with practical engineering skills relevant to sectors such as aerospace, automotive, electronics, manufacturing, biomedical engineering and industrial systems.
Established in 1854, COEP Technological University is one of Asia’s oldest engineering institutions and has a legacy spanning more than 172 years. The university currently serves nearly 6,700 students across undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes.
The partnership between COEP Tech, Synopsys and CADFEM India is aimed at creating a stronger ecosystem for advanced engineering education, applied research and industry-ready talent.
