Kolkata: Signal & Telecom Department is responsible for the herculean workload of installation and maintenance of Signal & Telecommunication equipments in a satisfactory and safe condition. The ground level staff of S&T department have to ensure smooth functioning of signal and telecommunication system which is evidently the backbone of Railway operations. During monsoon season failures of signal, track circuits and point increase due to water leakage and water accumulation in the points and track circulated areas on account of surge and lightning strikes. In order to expedite restoration of failure, S&T employees have to respond fast on 24×7 basis.
The Sealdah Division is relentlessly serving 107 Block stations that are maintained by Signalling Staff round the clock. Their relentless effort and unwavering dedication not only ensure operational safety but also make the system uninterrupted & continuous.
As far as the staff safety is concerned, it is considered to be the top most priority for Railway administration. In an endeavour to equip them with all modern gadgets & amenities, open line S&T staff are provided with Safety Jackets. To protect the open line staffs from enormous heat flow of summer season, Hats and water bottles are provided to each staff. Moreover, all are provided with Safety shoes and a multi-pocket tool bag for keeping the essential tools and measuring meters has been processed for providing all the staffs of Sealdah Division.
