Kolkata: Vigilant troops of Border Outpost Natna, 56 Battalion under BSF South Bengal Frontier foiled gold smuggling attempt at the international border of Dist Nadia of West Bengal and seized 02 gold Bars weighing 1100 grams wroth Rs. 89.7 lakh when smugglers were trying to smuggle these gold bars by throwing over the border fence from Bangladesh to India.
On 30 November troops of Border Outpost Natna, 56 Battalion received a specific information regarding throwing of gold from Bangladesh side to India over the border fence. After information a special ambush was laid ahead of fence. At about 1315 hrs, ambush party noticed the movement of two Bangladeshi smugglers approaching border fence. When suspected miscreants entered 100 meters inside Indian territory, ambush party challenged them and try to apprehend them but miscreants managed to fleed away towards Bangladesh side. Later, Ambush party searched the area and recovered one wrapped packet containing 02 gold bars.
Seized gold bar handed over to the Tehatta Customs department for further legal investigation.
The Public Relations Officer of BSF South Bengal Frontier appreciated the vigilance of BSF personnel and affirmed BSF’s commitment to combat smuggling activities. He assured that the informers will be rewarded and their identity will be kept confidential.
