Latest news

Kolkata : Ruby General Hospital, inaugurated on 25th April 1995, has completed three decades of dedicated service in healthcare. On this milestone occasion, Dr. Kamal K. Dutta, Chairman & Managing Director and a US-based NRI doctor, announced groundbreaking developments that mark a new chapter in advanced medical care in Eastern India.

After a fulfilling 30-year journey, Ruby General Hospital is now focused on expanding and enhancing its services to serve the community with world-class healthcare solutions.

Landmark in Cancer Care: Varian TrueBeam Linear Accelerator

The Ruby Cancer Center, a unit of Ruby General Hospital, has introduced the Varian TrueBeam Linear Accelerator, Version 3.0, equipped with an advanced contouring system and Eclipse Version 18 planning system.

This is the first of its kind in Eastern India, supported by a dedicated CT simulator for faster treatment. The cutting-edge technology has revolutionized cancer therapy, ensuring precise, effective, and faster care for patients battling cancer.

First Digital PET CT in Kolkata

Ruby General Hospital has also officially inaugurated Kolkata’s first Digital PET CT. The technology represents a major leap in diagnostic imaging, with multiple advantages:

  • Reduces scan time from 30 minutes to just 5 minutes
  • Patient receives only one-third radiation dose compared to analog PET CT
  • Detects tumours as small as 2.9 mm (vs 4.3 mm in analog PET CT)
  • Superior image clarity and enhanced contrast
  • Lower radiation exposure with improved patient safety
  • AI-enabled workflow for better disease insights and quantitative accuracy
  • Motion management without external devices, improving accuracy in chest, abdomen, and brain scans, especially for patients with Parkinson’s and neurodegenerative disorders

This breakthrough will enable earlier detection of cancer and other critical diseases, saving lives and reducing patient suffering.

Emphasis on Preventive Oncology

Highlighting the importance of prevention, Dr. Kamal K. Dutta emphasized that simple screening investigations — including Pap Smear, Mammogram, Low Dose CT Scan (LDCT), Colonoscopy, and Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) test — can play a vital role in early detection of cancer.

“At Ruby, our mission is not just treatment, but also prevention. By adopting preventive oncology, we can detect cancer at an early stage and drastically improve survival rates,” said Dr. Dutta.

Looking Ahead

As Ruby General Hospital steps into its fourth decade, it remains committed to blending cutting-edge medical technology with compassionate care. With its new cancer treatment facilities and Kolkata’s first Digital PET CT, the hospital has set a benchmark for healthcare in Eastern India.

Ruby General Hospital continues to uphold its founding philosophy: providing quality care and service to all sections of society.
