Sealdah Division’s “Unique Badge” System for Ticket Checking Staff Marks Major Step Toward Fraud-Free Rail Travel

Eastern Railway Kolkata Railway West Bengal

Kolkata: Sealdah Division of Eastern Railway has recorded notable success in preventing impersonation and enhancing passenger safety with the recent introduction of a Unique Identification Badge for travelling ticket examiners (TTEs). The initiative is aimed at eliminating fraudulent individuals posing as railway officials to extort money from passengers — a problem that has plagued busy suburban routes for years.

The system, conceptualised by Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Jasram Meena, under the guidance of Divisional Railway Manager (Sealdah), Rajeev Saxena, mandates that all on-duty ticket-checking staff wear the official badge prominently. The badge serves as an immediate marker of authenticity, enabling passengers as well as fellow railway employees to easily verify whether a TTE is genuine.

Since its implementation, the initiative has already shown promising results. Several fake TTEs have been successfully detected and apprehended in recent days, thanks to vigilant commuters and railway staff who identified the lack of the official badge. These timely interventions demonstrate the system’s effectiveness in curbing fraudulent activity.

The Sealdah Division continues to prioritise passenger security, transparency, and integrity in its operations. Authorities have appealed to the public to remain alert and cooperate with legitimate railway personnel for smoother and safer travel.
