Kolkata: Truth Labs, India’s first independent forensic science laboratory, has successfully completed eight years of operations in Kolkata, marking a significant milestone in its contribution to forensic investigation and justice delivery in Eastern India.

On the occasion, a special meet was organised by Dr. D. Sengupta, Director of Truth Labs Kolkata and former Director of the Kolkata Forensic Science Laboratory, to present a comprehensive report highlighting the laboratory’s achievements over the past eight years. The event was attended by senior experts and staff members including Soushna Bagchi, Deputy Director; Arkadyuti Seth, Assistant Director and Swapnendu Mukherjee, Scientific Officer.

Since its establishment in Kolkata, Truth Labs has handled a wide spectrum of forensic cases referred by police departments, courts, banks, insurance companies, advocates, industries, corporate organisations, and a large number of individual citizens. The Kolkata laboratory has also complemented the services of Truth Labs’ other centres located in Hyderabad, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai and Mumbai, which were established earlier.

Truth Labs was founded in 2007 in Hyderabad under the leadership of Dr. P. C. K. Gandhi Kaza, with the guidance and support of 10 retired Directors from Central and State Forensic Science Laboratories. Dr. Kaza had earlier served as an advisor to the Government of West Bengal, lending further credibility to the institution’s nationwide expansion.

Over the years, several sensational and high-profile cases have been referred to Truth Labs Kolkata from West Bengal and neighbouring states, including Assam and other North-Eastern states, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Bihar. These cases span a wide range of serious offences such as child trafficking, abduction, procurement of minors for sexual abuse, forgery, cheating, misappropriation, GST tax evasion, identification of unidentified dead bodies, cyber crimes, audio-video morphing, POCSO Act cases and insurance frauds.

A notable contribution of Truth Labs Kolkata has been its assistance to hundreds of individuals across West Bengal and adjoining regions in resolving disputes related to forgery, cheating, cyber fraud and misrepresentation, often providing decisive forensic evidence that led to satisfactory legal outcomes.

With continued support from the West Bengal Police and legal authorities, Truth Labs has expressed confidence in further strengthening its services and playing an even more impactful role in serving West Bengal and neighbouring states in the years ahead.
