Kolkata: After successfully hosting try outs in Noida, Hyderabad and Mumbai, the Elite Women’s Pro Basketball League begins its last leg of try outs at the Space Circle Club, Kolkata today. The try outs are expected to showcase the talent of over 300 athletes over a span of 3 days till the 24th of June 2023.
“It’s been a euphoric experience so far to witness this level of Basketball from the athletes in India. As we come to the last leg of the women’s tryouts for EWPBL season 1, we are pretty sure the quality of players will continue to get better as the selected athletes have set the bar as pioneers and faces of Basketball in India.
We are certainly going to see them inspire the upcoming athletes in the next few years & become role models for boys and girls across the country.” Said Mr. Sunny Bhandarkar, CEO, Elite Women’s Pro Basketball League on the onset of the try outs.
These try outs are the last stop of the league’s nationwide hunt to scout professional basketball players that will participate in the Elite Women’s Pro Basketball League later this year. Earlier this month, try outs were held in Hyderabad and Mumbai with huge participation with the flagship try out at Noida that kick started this whole revolution.
Elite Women’s Pro Basketball League, India’s first-of-its-kind 5×5 Pro Basketball League for women, features six teams filled with rosters of top-level Indian players and acts as a platform for the best basketball players from across the country. Coveted as the biggest and only basketball league in India for both the men and women, the main aim of this league is to hunt for talent from all over and give them an opportunity to compete.
The shortlisted players will all be a part of a large player pool and will have six teams, namely Mumbai Starlets, Delhi Wildcats, Chandigarh Dreams, Chennai Chargers, Bengaluru Blings and Kolkata Victory bidding going after the best basketball talent India has to offer.
