Eastern Railway Sealdah and Howrah Division celebrated Shramdan program

Kolkata : In a remarkable display of commitment to cleanliness & community service, Eastern Railway’s Howrah & Sealdah Divisions conducted a grand one hour Shramdan programme at Howrah & Sealdah stations on the auspicious occasion of Swachhta Pakhwada 2023, coinciding with the celebration of Gandhi Jayanti on October 1, 2023.

The Sealdah & Howrah divisions’ Shramdan programme witnessed the active participation of Railway officers, staff & volunteers who came together to engage in a comprehensive cleanliness drive. The event focussed on various aspects of station cleanliness, waste management and awareness campaigns. Educational posters & banners were displayed in both stations to raise awareness about the importance of cleanliness and hygiene.

In the celebration of Swachhta Pakhwada Sealdah division took a significant step towards environmental sustainability and cleanliness by distributing jute bags among the passengers of local train as an environment friendly bio degradable substitute of plastic bags.

Deepak Nigam, Divisional Railway Manager, Sealdah distributed the jute bags. The initiative received enthusiastic support from passengers including Abhijit Kundu, Bindu Ranjit who expressed their appreciation and delight upon receiving these eco friendly bags.

In addition to the jute bag distribution, a noteworthy event took place during the Swachhta Pakhwada celebration. A plastic bottle crusher machine was inaugurated by children of Bharat Scouts & Guides in presence of Divisional Railway Manager, Sealdah.

Sealdah division also ran Kolkata – Lalgola Hazarduari Express as Swachhta Jagrukta Express, for awareness of travelling passengers regarding cleanliness.

Howrah division ran one EMU special train from Howrah to Bandel & back to mark the Swachhta Pakhwada. The special train, flagged off by Sanjeev Kumar, Divisional Railway Manager, Howrah, witnessed significant improvements in cleanliness and hygiene at Sheoraphuli & Konnagar stations along its route.

Besides, massive Shramdan programme was also organized at different stations & their circulating areas over Howrah division viz. Sheoraphuli, Bandel, Hooghly, Konnagar, Srirampur, Howrah etc.
