Kolkata: Eastern Railway organised ‘Rail Jan Samvaad’ and cleanliness activities across stations under its jurisdiction on Thursday as part of Indian Railways’ Special Campaign 6.0, which is being observed from October 2 to 31, 2026. The initiative focused on improving station cleanliness, waste management, environmental sustainability and direct interaction between railway officials and passengers.
The one-day programme was organised at more than 7,000 railway stations across the country, providing an opportunity for passengers to share feedback, raise concerns and engage directly with railway officials on issues related to railway services and station facilities.
Senior officials participate in Sealdah and Kolkata
In Eastern Railway, the programme saw the participation of the General Manager, Additional General Manager, Divisional Railway Managers, Additional Divisional Railway Managers, divisional officers and railway staff across its four divisions.
Sheelendra Pratap Singh, Additional General Manager of Eastern Railway, participated in the initiative at Sealdah and Kolkata stations alongside senior officials of the Sealdah Division.

Addressing stakeholders at Sealdah station, Singh emphasised that cleanliness should be treated as a continuous responsibility rather than a one-day exercise. Referring to the spirit of ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’, he called for collective efforts to maintain hygienic railway premises and promote responsible waste disposal.
He also highlighted the importance of recycling and reusing waste materials to reduce waste generation and encourage environmentally sustainable practices.
Passengers share feedback on railway services
As part of the public outreach programme, Singh interacted with passengers travelling on the Sealdah–Ballia Express (Train No. 13105) at Sealdah station and the Kolkata–Agra Cantt. Express (Train No. 13167) at Kolkata station.
He also spoke to passengers waiting on the platforms, sought their views on railway services and enquired about any grievances they wished to raise.
Passengers were advised to use the appropriate railway grievance-redressal portals to register complaints and seek assistance. Singh also appealed to travellers to cooperate with railway authorities in keeping trains and station premises clean.
The interaction highlighted the role of passenger participation in improving railway facilities and maintaining a cleaner, more comfortable travel environment.
Focus on waste management and public participation
The Special Campaign 6.0 places emphasis on cleanliness, efficient use of available space, disposal of scrap and electronic waste, and greater citizen engagement. The campaign also seeks to improve the overall railway environment through coordinated action and public awareness.
During the programme, the Additional General Manager interacted with media personnel to share the objectives of the campaign and encourage wider public participation in cleanliness and environmental initiatives.
Shibram Majhi, Chief Public Relations Officer of Eastern Railway, said the ‘Rail Jan Samvaad’ initiative reflected the organisation’s focus on passenger-centric governance, responsive grievance redressal and environmental responsibility.
The initiative aims to strengthen communication between railway authorities and passengers while making cleanliness and public participation an integral part of everyday railway operations.
