Kolkata : The jawans of Border Outpost Petrapole, 145th Battalion conducted an anti-smuggling operation during which an Indian truck driver was arrested with 02 gold biscuits, the seized biscuits weighed about 233.300 grams and cost Rs 17,14,755.
Acting on information received from BSF intelligence regarding gold smuggling on 15 September 2024, BSF jawans launched a well-organised operation. The BSF intelligence shared the detailed information with the commander, which resulted in the seizure of a suspicious truck at ICP Petrapole and search of the truck which led to the recovery of 02 gold biscuits which were concealed in a black polythene bag wrapped with adhesive tape and white paper under a nylon rope on the roof of the cabin. The jawans then arrested the truck driver with the gold biscuits.

During interrogation, the driver disclosed that he works as an Indian Transport Truck Driver. On 14 September 2024, he had transported a consignment of apples to Benapole, Bangladesh through ICP Petrapole with valid documents and on the same night at about 2300 hrs, an unknown Bangladeshi person paid him ₹1,000 to smuggle two (2) gold biscuits at Sadipur, Benapole and directed him to hand over these biscuits to an unknown Indian person near ICP Gate No. 03, when the BSF jawans arrested him.
The arrested truck driver along with the seized gold biscuits has been handed over to the Customs office at Petrapole for further legal action.
Spokesperson of BSF, South Bengal Frontier expressed happiness over the vigilance of the jawans and said that the BSF jawans are fully determined and committed to curb cross-border crime and smuggling and said that the jawans do not take any time to foil any kind of nefarious activity.
