Kolkata : Durga Puja themes vary greatly across Kolkata. These themes showcase the creativity and diversity of Durga Puja celebrations in Kolkata. Durga Puja is no longer just a religious resemblance, it also signifies socio-economic and cultural aspects and ambitions.

Ballygunge 21 Pally Sarbojonin Durgotsab Samity started its journey in the year of Independence, i.e., 1947 by a group of eminent citizens like Jamini Roy (Indian Painter – Padma Bhusan Winner 1954), Atul Basu (Bangladeshi Oil Colour Eminent Painter), Dr. R. Ahmed (Dental Surgeon & donor of 1st Dental College of India) with its commitment to serve society by empowering people.

This year, Ballygunge 21 Pally is celebrating its 78th year of Durga Puja with the theme of “Coolies, The Unsung Heroes“. From dusk to dawn, Coolies battle tirelessly, braving the scorching heat or torrential rain, to facilitate commuters visiting Railway premises. Their humble and continuous efforts help passengers immensely to carry their luggage.

In order to embody the noble theme, Ballygunge 21 Pally is exhibiting Sealdah and Ballygunge stations showcasing Coolies. This Durga Puja Pandal has turned out to be a grand success by virtue of its unique theme adorned by huge spectators.
