Ancient Kali Temple in Birbhum Shrouded in Mystery

Birbhum, Raju Mal: Located in the quaint village of Akalipur near Rampurhat in Birbhum, 300 year old Kali Temple has stood as a testament to the region’s rich history and spirituality. According to local lore, Mother Kali is said to emerge from the temple every night, roaming freely under the cover of darkness. The temple doors close after evening prayers ,and no worship is performed during the night, defying conventional Kali temple traditions.

The temple’s idol, crafted by Magad King Jarasandha ,features Mother Kali sitting atop a coil of snakes, sans Lord Shiva .This departure from traditional Kali imagery has sparked curiosity among devotees and scholars.

According to Legend that this goddess is revered by tantric practitioners, adding to the temple’s mystique. Maharaj Nandakumar’s decision to build the temple on the banks of the Brahmani River, adjacent to a cremation ground, further solidifies its tantric connection. This ancient Kali Temple remains a hidden gem in Birbhum’s cultural landscape, awaiting exploration and discovery.
