Kolkata: In yet another giant infrastructure development stride, Sealdah Division will replace old steel girder in Rail Over Bridge in between Ballyghat and Ballyhalt in Dumdum – Dankuni Section. This all important Rail Bridge was constructed almost 95 years ago during the British Regime. The age old steel girder at Bridge No.15/CCR is highly corroded mainly because of ageing. This ROB needs to be replaced on urgent basis in order to augment safety and line capacity.
The construction work by providing RCC boxes will certainly enhance the sectional speed and will also be beneficial for the purpose of maintenance. The entire track will be ballasted after removal of old steel girder. In shadow of the herculean infrastructure work, some long pending Engineering and S&T works will also be accomplished.
THE BLOCK:
There will be 100 hours massive traffic cum power block from 00:00 hrs of 23.01.2025 to 04:00 hrs of 27.01.2025, regulating train movement completely in the Dumdum – Dankuni Section.
REPERCUSSION:
a) Cancellation:
(i) 22 pairs of EMU locals in between Sealdah and Dankuni will remain cancelled from 23.01.25 to 26.01.25. As such, there will be no local train movement in Sealdah – Dankuni Section for the aforementioned 04 days of block.
(ii) A few Mail/Express trains will remain cancelled, viz., Kolkata – Patna Garibrath, Tebhaga Express, Sealdah – Siuri Express, Dibrugar – Kolkata Express, Sealdah – Jangipur Road Express, Sealdah – Asansol Intercity Express, Kolkata – Balurghat Express, Kolkata – Haldibari Intercity Express.
b) Change of Terminating/Originating Stations:
Uttarbanga Express & Sealdah – Puri Duronto Express will originate from/terminate at Howrah instead of Sealdah for the block days.
C) Diversion:
17 pairs of Mail/Express trains will be diverted via Dumdum-Naihati on the days of block viz, Jammu Tawai Express, Bikaner Duronto, Ananya Express, Agra Cant. Express, Shabd Bhedi Express, Nangal dam Express, Sealdah Rajdhani, Padatik Express, Kanchanjangha Express, Kanchankanya Express, Darjeeling Mail, Sealdah Ajmer Express, Anand Bihar Sampark Kranti Express, Jammu Tawai Humsafar Express, Pratap Express, Jalianwalabagh Express, Durgiana Express.
Fare of tickets for cancelled Mail/Express train will be refunded automatically. Kanchankanya and Jammu Tawai Express will be given stoppage at Naihati Station instead of Kamarkundu station. 06 pairs of Mail/Express trains will be given stoppage at Belghoria instead of Dakshineswar. The time frequency of train operation of Sealdah main and North section will slightly increase by 1/1.5 minutes due to running of Mail/Express trains via diverted route.
This block was inevitable for the sake of Safety, Security and Speed enhancement of the entire section. The bridge was age old and it’s bound to be replaced, which necessitates the mammoth block. Inconvenience caused to our esteemed commuters for the 4 days’ block is highly regretted.
