The British Council to Host a Special Screening of ‘The Beatles and India’ documentary in Kolkata

Kolkata: The British Council, the UK’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities,presents a special screening of the critically acclaimed documentary ‘The Beatles and India’ on 17 January in Kolkata, as part of its Culture Friday’s initiative. Directed by renowned Indian author and political journalist Ajoy Bose, this 2021 documentary film explores the enduring love affair between The Beatles and India that began more than half a century ago. Through rare archival footage, photographs, eye-witness accounts, and expert commentary, the documentary brings to life the fascinating journey of George, John, Paul, and Ringo from their high-octane celebrity lives in the West to a remote Himalayan ashram in search of spiritual bliss—a quest that inspired an unprecedented burst of creative songwriting. 

The screening will be followed by a discussion with Ajoy Bose: Director of the documentary and author of the book Across the Universe: The Beatles in India. The director Ajoy Bose will be in conversation with Malavika Banerjee – Director, Kolkata Literary Meet.

The event is open exclusively to people who are 18 years and above with seating available on first come first served basis.
