Patna : The Election Commission of India (ECI) has launched the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar to verify the eligibility of electors as per the constitutional mandate. The drive, which has already commenced successfully, is being conducted in line with Article 326 of the Indian Constitution, ensuring that only Indian citizens above 18 years and ordinarily residing in a constituency are included in the electoral rolls.

With the active involvement of political parties, the SIR aims to strengthen electoral transparency and inclusivity across all 243 Assembly Constituencies of the state. As part of the initiative:

  • 77,895 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are already on duty, with 20,603 additional BLOs being deployed for newly created polling stations.
  • Over 1 lakh volunteers are assisting elderly, sick, PwD, poor, and other vulnerable voters.
  • Recognised national and state parties have already appointed 1,54,977 Booth Level Agents (BLAs) to support the revision process.
  • Door-to-door distribution and printing of new Enumeration Forms (EFs) for 7.89 crore existing electors have begun, alongside a successful rollout of online EF submission.
  • 4.96 crore electors from the last intensive revision (as of 01.01.2003) only need to verify and submit the EF.
  • SMS notifications are being sent to 5.74 crore registered mobile numbers to ensure widespread awareness.

All BLOs are working full-time under the supervision of Divisional Commissioners and District Magistrates. The ECI confirmed that the SIR is proceeding smoothly and on schedule, reaffirming its commitment to a free and fair electoral process in Bihar.
