Kolkata: In a unique initiative promoting active and healthy aging, Manipal Hospitals Kolkata organized the city’s first-ever Senior Citizens’ Sports Summit, bringing together over 100 elderly participants for a day filled with games, learning, and laughter.
The summit was inaugurated with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony graced by former Indian cricketer Arun Lal, alongside eminent doctors from Manipal Hospitals Kolkata. Seniors enthusiastically took part in friendly competitions such as chess, carrom, marble & spoon race, musical chairs, spelling bee, brain teasers, and more—designed to enhance fitness, agility, and mental alertness while fostering social interaction.
A panel discussion on holistic well-being for senior citizens added depth to the celebration. The session featured leading experts including Dr. Jayanta Roy (Neurology), Dr. Kunal Sarkar (Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery), Dr. Debraj Jash (Pulmonology), Dr. Subhasis Roy Choudhury (Cardiology), Dr. Binayak Sinha (Diabetes & Endocrinology), and Dr. Debasis Chakravarty (Orthopaedics).
The prize distribution ceremony was attended by senior specialists across clusters, including Dr. Vikash Kapoor, Dr. Arindam Pande, Dr. Sujoy Das Thakur, Dr. Chandrasish Chakraborty, Dr. Paramita Kanjilal, Dr. Smita Maitra, Dr. Jayanta Das, among others, who felicitated the spirited participants.
