Grand Success of Free Eye Check-up Camp by Pragatishil Nationalist Journalists’ Association

Kolkata: The Pragatishil Nationalist Journalists’ Association (প্রগতিশীল রাষ্ট্রবাদী সাংবাদিক সংঘ) organized a grand free eye check-up camp at the Press Club Kolkata. Nearly 150 journalists and photojournalists availed free eye examinations, blood tests and ECGs. Spectacles were distributed free of cost, while five journalists diagnosed with cataracts were assured free phaco surgeries.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by Bishop of Kolkata Paritosh Canning, senior advocate of Calcutta High Court Dr. Siddhartha Goswami, President of Press Club Kolkata Snehashis Sur, along with association secretary Naresh Srivastava, joint secretary Shouvik Bandopadhyay, and several other dignitaries. Former BJP state president Dilip Ghosh and BJP leader Ritesh Tiwari also attended the concluding session.

Speaking on the occasion,Assistant Secretary Shouvik Bandopadhyay said:
“This event was made possible with the support of Press Club Kolkata, to whom we extend our heartfelt thanks. We are also grateful to the NGO Prem Milan Kolkata for their cooperation. In the coming days, we plan to organize similar health camps and social welfare programs for journalists across different districts of South Bengal, with the support of local press clubs.”

Association secretary Naresh Srivastava added:
“As a journalists’ body, we always stand by any journalist, YouTuber, or blogger across the state. Whether it’s legal issues or other problems, we are committed to defending freedom of expression. Whenever such incidents come to our notice, we provide complete assistance, entirely free of cost.”

The event turned into a confluence of eminent personalities from different fields, making the camp a memorable initiative for the journalist fraternity.
