Barrackpore: Army Public School (APS) Barrackpore, located within the historic Barrackpore Military Station, celebrated its Annual Sports Day 2025 over three days with great enthusiasm, fervour and a strong message of inclusivity.The event coincided with the school’s 27 years of excellence and was organised under the theme “Inclusive India – We Are the Champs.”
First phase of Annual Sports Day was conducted on 20th December at school premises for primary Wing children.
The second phase began on December 24 at Dhyan Chand Stadium (RCTC Ground) for students of Classes III to VIII. That event was graced by Olympian Soma Biswas, Arjuna Awardee and Asian Games silver medalist, as the Chief Guest, along with Brigadier Ashish Hooda, Sena Medal, Commander 122 Infantry Brigade and Chairman, APS Barrackpore.

The opening ceremony featured the lighting of the ceremonial torch, flag hoisting, release of pigeons and balloons, followed by a disciplined march past by the house teams and NCC cadets. Students participated enthusiastically in track and field events, including sprints, relays and fun races. A new school record in the 200m sprint and Manekshaw House’s relay victory were among the major highlights. Cultural performances such as yoga, karate and dance added colour to the occasion.

The third phase of the Annual Sports Day was held on December 26 for Classes IX to XII on the school campus. The event was graced by renowned international archer and Arjuna Awardee Dola Banerjee as the Chief Guest. She was felicitated by Brigadier Ashish Hooda, SM.
The day featured an impressive march past by the four houses—
Roy Chowdhury, Manekshaw, Cariappa and Raina—along with Student Council members and NCC cadets. Athletic events, including sprint races and a mixed relay, showcased teamwork and endurance. A thematic tableau highlighting national unity and inclusivity drew wide appreciation.
During the prize distribution ceremony, outstanding performers and houses were awarded trophies and medals. Addressing the gathering, Ms Dola Banerjee and Soma Biswas emphasised the importance of sports in building character, discipline and leadership.
Dr. Moitryee Mukherjee, Principal, APS Barrackpore, praised the students’ disciplined participation and acknowledged the support of teachers, parents and the management.
The Annual Sports Day 2025 concluded with the National Anthem, leaving behind lasting memories and reinforcing the school’s commitment to holistic education, sportsmanship and the values upheld by the Indian Army.
