Kolkata : As preparations intensify for the Gangasagar Mela 2026, the Sealdah Division of Eastern Railway has stepped up efforts to ensure a smooth, dignified and pilgrim-friendly travel experience. In this direction, Jasram Meena, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (Sr. DCM), Sealdah, on Saturday chaired a high-level coordination meeting with all ticket checking staff and commercial supervisors of the division.
The meeting focused on strengthening passenger facilitation, communication and on-ground supervision, keeping in mind the massive influx of pilgrims expected to travel through the Sealdah Division during the Mela period.
Frontline Staff as the “Face” of Railways
Emphasising that ticket checking and commercial staff are the primary interface between the Railways and passengers, Meena underlined the importance of soft skills, empathy and courteous public dealing. He noted that the behaviour and responsiveness of frontline employees play a crucial role in shaping pilgrims’ overall experience and reflect the Railways’ commitment to service excellence.
To achieve a “Zero-Inconvenience” goal for devotees, Meena issued a set of strategic operational guidelines.
Key Instructions Issued
Hassle-Free Ticketing:
Clear directions were given to ensure that pilgrims do not face any difficulty in procuring tickets. The division will deploy additional ticket counters and manpower, with maximum utilisation of M-UTS facilities, to efficiently handle the surge in passenger demand.
Real-Time Passenger Information:
All staff manning Enquiry Desks have been instructed to remain fully updated with train schedules, platform changes, and special Gangasagar Mela services, ensuring accurate and timely guidance to passengers.
Enhanced Communication:
The Sr. DCM directed that proper, frequent, and clear announcements be made across stations to guide pilgrims smoothly and prevent confusion, especially during peak hours.
Active On-Ground Supervision:
Commercial supervisors were urged to remain fully active and visible on the ground throughout the Mela period, closely monitoring operations and providing immediate resolution to emerging issues.

Reiterating Sealdah Division’s dedication to public service, officials stated that every effort is being made to maintain the highest standards of passenger amenities and operational efficiency during the peak days of Gangasagar Mela 2026.
