Kolkata: Strengthening India’s innovation ecosystem and advancing the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, Dr. Sudhir Chandra Sur Institute of Technology & Sports Complex (SurTech)—a JIS Group educational initiative—today inaugurated a state-of-the-art AICTE IDEA Lab at its Kolkata campus.
The lab was formally inaugurated by Sardar Haranjit Singh, Joint Managing Director, JIS Group, in the presence of Prof. (Dr.) Saradindu Panda, Principal, SurTech; Prof. Neeraj Saxena, Pro-Chancellor, JIS University; Prof. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice-Chancellor, JIS University, along with senior academicians, faculty members, and industry representatives.
Conceptualised under AICTE’s IDEA (Innovation, Design, Entrepreneurship and Augmentation) initiative, the lab is designed to function as a vibrant innovation hub that nurtures design thinking, creativity, and hands-on problem-solving skills among students. By fostering experiential and interdisciplinary learning, the facility empowers young innovators to convert ideas into functional prototypes and scalable solutions aligned with the national Make in India mission.
The AICTE IDEA Lab at SurTech is equipped with advanced fabrication and development facilities, including a Laser Cutting Lab, 3D Printing Lab, IoT and Robotics Lab, and PCB Design Lab. Students will have access to cutting-edge infrastructure such as CNC and laser cutting machines, 3D printers, PCB prototyping systems, lathes, welding units, and development platforms including Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and NodeMCU, enabling real-world engineering applications.
The launch of the lab underlines the JIS Group’s strong commitment to innovation-driven education, industry collaboration, and entrepreneurship, with a focus on transforming students into future-ready engineers and job creators.
