Kolkata: In a significant push toward strengthening innovation-driven technical education, a state-of-the-art AICTE-IDEA Lab (Idea Development, Evaluation and Application Lab) was inaugurated at Guru Nanak Institute of Technology (GNIT), a JIS Group educational initiative.
The facility was formally inaugurated by Taranjit Singh, Managing Director, JIS Group; Haranjit Singh, Joint Managing Director; and Simarpreet Singh, Director, JIS Group.
The occasion was graced by Tapas Chakraborty, Vice Chancellor of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT), and Swarup Kumar Mitra, Principal of GNIT, along with senior academicians, faculty members, students and industry representatives.
Industry-Ready Infrastructure for Complete Product Development
The AICTE-IDEA Lab at GNIT has been designed to support the entire product development lifecycle — from ideation and design to prototyping and application.
The lab is equipped with advanced tools and machinery, including:
- CNC router
- Laser cutting machine
- 3D scanner
- 3D printer
- Vinyl cutter
- High-performance computing systems
- Collaborative innovation workspaces
The infrastructure aims to facilitate interdisciplinary learning, hands-on experimentation and startup-oriented innovation in a safe and professionally structured environment.
Building an Innovation Ecosystem
Envisioned as a dynamic innovation ecosystem, the AICTE-IDEA Lab seeks to nurture creativity, design thinking, analytical problem-solving and entrepreneurial skills among students.
Aligned with national missions such as Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India, the facility will enable students to transform conceptual ideas into tangible prototypes and real-world solutions through experiential and cross-disciplinary learning models.
Speaking at the inauguration, Taranjit Singh said:

The launch of the AICTE-IDEA Lab reinforces GNIT and JIS Group’s long-standing focus on bridging the gap between academia and industry. The initiative is expected to foster collaborative projects, encourage startup incubation and prepare students to emerge as future-ready engineers, innovators and job creators.
