Minor Hotels Signs Anantara Kolkata at WTC Salt Lake, Marking First Urban Luxury Entry in India

Kolkata, April 6, 2026 — Minor Hotels has announced the signing of the Anantara Kolkata Hotel, marking the brand’s debut in India’s urban luxury hospitality segment. The property is slated to open in 2032 at the upcoming World Trade Center Salt Lake in Sector V.

The hotel will form a key component of the 11-acre mixed-use World Trade Center development, which will feature Grade A office spaces and retail offerings. The project represents Eastern India’s first World Trade Center and reflects Kolkata’s continued expansion as a commercial and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) hub.

Strategically located in Salt Lake City’s Sector V—one of the city’s leading IT and corporate districts—the development lies approximately 10 kilometres from Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, providing convenient access for both domestic and international travellers.

The Anantara Kolkata Hotel will feature approximately 170 guest rooms and suites, complemented by a range of upscale amenities. These include an all-day dining restaurant, a specialty rooftop venue and a lobby lounge. The property will also cater to business and events demand with flexible meeting spaces, including a ballroom, while leisure facilities will include an Anantara Spa, wellness centre, gym and swimming pool.

William Heinecke, Founder and Chairman of Minor International, described the signing as a significant milestone in the group’s India expansion strategy, highlighting the versatility of the Anantara brand across both resort and urban environments.

The World Trade Center Salt Lake is being developed through a joint venture between Aryan Realty and Merlin Group. Industry leaders from both firms said the project is expected to strengthen Kolkata’s position as a regional business and cultural destination while elevating its premium hospitality landscape.

The Kolkata property adds to Minor Hotels’ growing pipeline in India. Upcoming developments include the Anantara Zanti Coorg Resort and the Avani+ Sunray Beach Visakhapatnam Resort, both scheduled to open in 2028. The group currently operates the Anantara Jewel Bagh Jaipur Hotel, which opened in 2025.

Minor Hotels has outlined plans to expand its India portfolio to 50 properties over the next decade, underscoring its long-term commitment to one of the world’s fastest-growing hospitality markets.
