Kolkata : More than 2,500 students joined Amity University Kolkata as the institution held its Orientation Programme 2026 at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre on Tuesday.
The programme marked the beginning of the new academic session and brought together students from different parts of India as well as several other countries.
Amity University Chancellor Dr. Atul Chauhan, Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Sanku Bose, Amity Education Group Senior Vice President U. Ramachandran and Vice President – Marketing, Outreach & Admission Dr. Preeti Sahni attended the programme.
The event opened with a Vedic Hawan, ceremonial lamp lighting and Saraswati Vandana. Career development from the first day
Addressing the new students, Prof. (Dr.) Sanku Bose said students need to prepare not only for existing career opportunities but also for a rapidly changing professional environment.
He introduced the AUK Career 360 Framework, which will focus on structured career development from the beginning of students’ academic journey, taking into account their interests, strengths and professional goals.
Prof. Bose also highlighted the growing role of Artificial Intelligence and Financial Intelligence. He said both areas would form part of the students’ academic journey as they prepare for the changing demands of the workplace.
University introduces Student Happiness Index
The university also announced the Student Happiness Index (SHI) during the orientation programme. The initiative is aimed at collecting student feedback on areas including teaching, learning, campus life and the overall student experience.
Prof. Bose urged students to adopt a culture of “Collaboration over Competition”, encouraging them to learn from each other and work together on research, innovation and problem-solving.
Focus on research and global exposure
Chancellor Dr. Atul Chauhan spoke about the importance of research-driven learning, interdisciplinary collaboration and overall development.
U. Ramachandran stressed the need for adaptability, a global outlook and empathetic leadership as students prepare for their professional careers.
The orientation programme also highlighted the diverse composition of the new batch, with students coming from different states of India and several countries.
In his concluding remarks, Prof. Bose encouraged students to look beyond conventional definitions of success and focus on the problems they can solve and the value they can create.
“We don’t want you merely to survive that world. We want you to lead it,” he said.
The orientation programme marked the formal start of the academic journey for Amity University Kolkata’s 2026 batch.
