Airtel entered the sovereign cloud space with the launch of Airtel Cloud through Xtelify in August 2025. The company positioned the platform as India’s first sovereign, telco-grade cloud offering from a telecom operator.

Originally developed to support Airtel’s own digital ecosystem, the infrastructure is described as battle-tested to handle up to 1.4 billion transactions per minute.

Airtel Cloud follows a sovereign-by-design approach, with data, infrastructure and control-plane operations hosted and governed within India.

The platform is designed to help enterprises address requirements related to data residency, security and regulatory compliance.

Built on Airtel’s data-centre infrastructure and nationwide network, the cloud platform offers features including 99.99% uptime, geo-redundancy, disaster recovery, immutable backups and continuous data replication.

The platform also provides Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) and GenAI-enabled services. These capabilities are aimed at organisations looking to run mission-critical workloads while maintaining greater control over their data and digital infrastructure.

With India’s digital economy continuing to expand, sovereign cloud is emerging as an important part of the country’s digital infrastructure. For businesses and government organisations handling sensitive information, the ability to keep data, technology infrastructure and operational control within India could become increasingly important for security, compliance and digital resilience.
