Kolkata : For Prof. Parboty Chakraborty, teaching has always been more than a profession—it has been her life’s purpose. A distinguished Sanskrit academic and teacher, she is now back to her teaching and academic activities after successfully undergoing a hysterectomy at Manipal Hospital, Salt Lake.
Prof. Chakraborty had been suffering from persistent pain and discomfort in the lower part of her body since late 2023. After consultations elsewhere, she met Dr. Abhinibesh Chatterjee, Consultant Gynaecologist and Advanced Laparoscopic Surgeon, in January 2024. Following detailed evaluation, she underwent a successful hysterectomy at Manipal Hospital, which helped reduce her risk of cancer.
The procedure was performed under the care of Dr. Abhinibesh Chatterjee, along with co-surgeon Dr. Polly Chatterjee, Consultant Gynaecologist and Obstetrician, and the medical team.
Prof. Chakraborty said the months of pain had caused considerable anxiety, but Dr. Chatterjee’s reassurance gave her confidence to proceed with treatment. Regular follow-ups have helped her continue her recovery, and she is now able to return to what she loves most—teaching and interacting with her students.
A Sanskrit scholar, Prof. Chakraborty has authored seven books, published around 30 research papers and guided several PhD scholars. She has also been associated with institutions including Jadavpur University and Calcutta University.
On the occasion of Teachers’ Day, her journey highlights how timely medical care can help educators regain their health, confidence and ability to continue shaping young minds.
