Kolkata: The all important commissioning of the new Electronic Interlocking (EI) system is going on in full swing as per planning. Deactivating the age old Route Relay Interlocking (RRI) System at Ballygunge Jn was initiated at 00:20 hrs by officially declaring Non – interlocking. Both the old RRI systems at Kankurgachi and Ballygunge are about 30 years old and hence prone to failure.
Installation and testing of new signals, point machines and track devices are being carried out as planned and expected to be completed well before 04:00 hrs on 03.02.2025. Commissioning of both the Electronic Interlocking systems will be beneficial in augmenting safety, security, average speed of the section and above all operational flexibility of Sealdah South Section which ply about 330 EMUs everyday to cater to lakhs of commuters.
330 disciplined, dedicated and trained Railway employees are working relentlessly on 24×7 basis to accomplish commissioning of the sophisticated cutting edge technology EI well within the scheduled deadline.
Deepak Nigam, DRM Sealdah, visited Ballygunge Jn. today to take stock of the progress of the work. He has expressed his satisfaction over the pace of the complex infrastructure development project.
