Kolkata: Fortis Hospital Anandapur organized a special awareness session on ‘Safe Care for Newborn and Child’ to mark World Patient Safety Day. The initiative aimed to educate parents, teachers, and caregivers about creating a safer and healthier environment for children.
Led by Dr. Sumita Saha, Consultant – Neonatologist & Pediatrician, the programme drew participation from over 100 parents and caregivers. Experts including pediatricians, neonatologists, psychologists, psychiatrists, teachers, and emergency medicine specialists engaged in lectures, panel discussions, and live demonstrations.
The sessions highlighted newborn and toddler safety at home, the role of teachers in children’s well-being, early identification of mental health concerns, and the importance of nutrition. Demonstrations on Basic Life Support (BLS), hand hygiene, and choking management offered participants essential life-saving skills.
Dr. Sumita Saha emphasized, “Children are the most precious part of our families and society. Ensuring their safety at home, in schools, and in the community is our shared responsibility. This programme was designed to empower parents and caregivers with practical knowledge to prevent avoidable risks and improve children’s well-being.”
Reinforcing the hospital’s commitment, Ashish Mukherjee, Facility Director, Fortis Hospital Anandapur, said, “We strongly believe in preventive care and awareness. This initiative not only educated families about safety practices but also encouraged a holistic approach to child health—physical, emotional, and psychological—by bringing together experts under one roof.”
The initiative reflected Fortis Hospital’s continued focus on patient safety, preventive care, and community health awareness.
