Latest news

Kolkata : Anticipating a surge in passenger traffic during the upcoming Durga Puja festival, Eastern Railway’s Sealdah Division has launched a series of initiatives to ensure smooth, safe, and convenient travel. The measures focus on managing increased footfall, enhancing security, and improving passenger facilities at Sealdah and Dum Dum Junction, two of the busiest stations in the division, especially after the opening of recent metro lines.

Key Initiatives

A) ‘Prafulla Dwar’ at Sealdah Station
A dedicated entrance at Platform No. 1—‘Prafulla Dwar’—has been inaugurated to ease congestion for suburban commuters and festival-goers. Features include:

  • Nine new booking counters (7 general, 1 ladies, 1 Divyangjan)
  • Three new ATVMs (Automated Ticket Vending Machines)
  • QR code ticketing, train indication boards, ramps for Divyangjan, GPS clock, PA system, and improved lighting

B) Dum Dum Station New Booking Office
A new booking office outside the platform area adds three counters, including one for Divyangjan, along with two ATVMs and QR code ticketing. Future plans include train indication boards, digital clocks, and PA systems.

C) Heightened Security Measures
RPF personnel have been deployed strategically across stations and trains, coordinating with local police and volunteers. Continuous CCTV monitoring will focus on crowded areas and late-night services to prevent theft, snatching, and other incidents.

D) New Public Urinal Complex at Kanchrapara Station
A modern sanitary block at Platform No. 1 includes 10 urinals, 3 washbasins, and 1 Divyangjan-accessible toilet with ramps and handrails.

Sealdah Division urges all passengers to cooperate with staff, follow ticketing guidelines, and respect security protocols to ensure a safe and enjoyable festive season.
