Kolkata: The All India Budo Shotokan Karate Association (AIBSKA) – Japan Shotokan Karate Association (JSKA) HQ India – officially unveiled Team India for the upcoming JSKA World Championship 2025, to be held from November 1 to 3 at the Ehime Prefectural Budokkan, Matsuyama, Japan.
The announcement came during a press conference at the Press Club, Kolkata, attended by senior instructors, athletes, and prominent figures from the martial arts and sports community.
Addressing the media, Shihan Tirthankar Nandy (7th Dan, Japan), Founder and Director of AIBSKA – JSKA India, said the championship will feature participation from over 34 nations across six continents, marking another global milestone for Indian karate.
“For nearly two decades, AIBSKA has carried India’s spirit of karate across continents. Competing in Japan – the birthplace of karate – is a proud milestone in our journey to prove that Indian karatekas can stand shoulder to shoulder with the world’s best,” said Shihan Tirthankar Nandy.
“Our athletes come from every corner of India, united by passion, discipline, and the dream to see the national flag rise high on the global stage,” he added.
Over the years, AIBSKA – JSKA India has represented the nation at several world championships across South America, Europe, and Asia, promoting traditional karate-do and empowering young martial artists from grassroots levels.
Star-Studded Indian Line-up
The 2025 contingent features some of India’s most accomplished and promising karatekas:
- Rupsa Gupta – Double Silver Medallist, JSKA St. Petersburg 2018
- Sensei Samir Singh – FSKA World Champion 2024
- Saptarshi Mukherjee – Silver & Bronze Medallist, IKA World Championship (Argentina) and JSKA World Championship (Manchester, UK)
- Sanjay Kumar Subba – National Champion
- Shuvendu Dev – International Kata Medallist, Alipurduar
- Abhijit Sutradhar – National Champion, Cooch Behar
- Bompu Karlo, Shreya Gogoi, Sri Kumaran Senthil Kumar, and Samridh Agarwal – Emerging international medalists
Adding a unique dimension to the team, Sellathurai Ganeshalingam, a 70+ year-old Indian-origin instructor based in the UK, will represent India — symbolizing the association’s global unity and lifelong dedication to the art of karate.
The participation of Team India at Matsuyama stands as a proud chapter in the country’s martial arts journey, reinforcing India’s growing presence in the world of traditional karate-do.
