Kolkata :In a decisive move against ticketless and irregular travel, Sealdah Division of Eastern Railway carried out a large-scale Special Ticket Checking Drive across the entire division to ensure a smooth and dignified journey for genuine passengers.

The intensive operation covered all major stations and sections under Sealdah Division. A total of 2,182 cases of ticketless or improper travel were detected, leading to the realization of ₹5,24,035 in fines.

Teams of ticket checking staff, assisted by railway security personnel, conducted rigorous inspections. Passengers found traveling without valid tickets, with incorrect travel authority, or carrying unbooked luggage were penalized as per provisions of the Railway Act.

Railway officials emphasized that the drive was undertaken not only for revenue protection but also to sensitize commuters about the importance of traveling with proper tickets and to promote a culture of disciplined and lawful travel. Revenue generated through ticket purchases directly supports the enhancement of railway infrastructure and passenger amenities.

Sealdah Division has once again appealed to passengers to travel responsibly by purchasing valid tickets through booking counters, ATVMs, or the RailOne app. The Railway administration has cautioned that similar surprise checking drives will continue across the division to curb unauthorized travel and ensure safety and comfort for law-abiding passengers.
