Launch of ‘Vivek’ – a documentary feature on Swami Vivekananda’s 161st birth anniversary

Kolkata: Swami Vivekananda, the iconic spiritual leader,and an eternal source of inspiration across genders, age and culture has always been known for his insightful wisdom and universal teachings. His timeless philosophyhas immense relevance even in today’s world. In recognition of the need to introduce his deep insights to the younger generation, renowned Director Abhijit Dasgupta plans to launch a docu-feature film presented by Harshavardhan Neotia, Chairman, Ambuja Neotia called ‘Vivek’. The latest docu-feature film ‘Vivek’ is based on his previous venture of ‘Naren’ audio-visual series.

This ground-breaking feature is set to get launched on the occasion of 161st birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, which also happens to be the National Youth Day of India. This feature will bridge the gap between historical iconography and in-depth comprehension of Swami Vivekananda’s teachings, fostering a deeper understanding among today’s youth.

Swami Vivekananda’s ideals of universal brotherhood, tolerance, and scientific thinking hold immense relevance in the rapidly evolving and divided world. Recognizing and acknowledging presence of a strong personal and emotional involvement with Swamiji’s philosophies, Abhijit Dasgupta introduced this film. He believes that ‘Vivek’ will not only acquaint young minds with the profound wisdom of Swami Vivekananda in an engaging and enlightening manner, but also inculcate a habit among youngsters of not accepting anything on its face value. Forming an inquisitive logical mind which is able to question is needed in today’s youngsters.

The film not only beautifully captures anecdotes from his ancestral house and his upbringing but also highlights his journey while he travelled to Chicago to enlighten people of USA of faiths and religions as practiced by Sri Sri Ramakrishna. Swami Vivekananda’s travels, his different names at different times, his experiences in Almora, Porbandar, Mount Abu to Cape Comorin is portrayed as the greatest educator. The significance of staying relevant across ages is one of the key elements to imbibe from this film.

Swami Vivekananda’s experiences and his forward-thinking approach by way of celebrating women power is remarkable. It can successfully imbibe a revolutionary spirit in Sister Nivedita and change the way how the society looks at women.
