Kolkata : Dr. Sudipta Narayan Roy, Chairman of National Ayush Task Force, ASSOCHAM, Dr. Rathin Chakraborty, Globally acclaimed Homoeopath & Former Mayor of Howrah, Dr. Sahidul Islam, Former Executive Member, Central Council of Homoeopathy (Govt. of India) & Joint Secretary General, The Homoeopathy Medical Association India, jointly addressed today on behalf of the Homoeopathic Fraternity. They said, “We find it imperative to express our deep concern and firm protest against the disparaging comments made in the camouflage of a question parliamentary session on February 6th, 2024, regarding homoeopathy, particularly the statement, ‘Homoeopathy is a form of quackery’ by Rajya Sabha Member Saket Gokhale of TMC.”

Dr. Sudipta Narayan Roy, Chairman, National Ayush Task Force, ASSOCHAM said, “This comment, mentioned as item no. 34 in the Rajya Sabha, has not only sparked discontent within the homoeopathic fraternity but has also offended the millions of individuals in our country who prefer homoeopathy as their primary or alternative mode of treatment. We wish to highlight that homoeopathy is recognized and practiced globally, and it is not banned anywhere; rather, it faces certain regulatory restrictions to ensure the safety and well-being of patients.”

Dr. Rathin Chackraborti, Eminent Homoepath, Ex Mayor of Howrah stated “we would like to remind the concerned individual those great minds and revered personalities, including Dr.Mahendra Lal Sarkar, the Physician of Thakur ‘Ramakrishna Paramhansa’, have endorsed homoeopathy as a credible form of treatment. Dismissing homoeopathy as quackery not only insults the present generation of homoeopathic practitioners but also dishonours the legacy of those who embraced this system with a scientific mind. West Bengal, often regarded as the “citadel of homoeopathy”, has witnessed the establishment of numerous Wellness Clinics under the AYUSH system, including those dedicated to homoeopathy. Here we have more than 252 MSME Homoeopathy manufacturers. We question the appropriateness of such remarks made in a sacred space of democracy without a comprehensive understanding of homoeopathic science. It is crucial for responsible individuals to refrain from biased comments that may be motivated otherwise.”

Dr. Sahidul Islam, Jt. General Secretary, The Homeopathic Medical Association of India said, “We vehemently protest this derogatory comment and call for an immediate public apology to the people of India, especially the homoeopathic fraternity, and specially the residents of West Bengal. We also urge the concerned individual to recognize the significant role of homoeopathy in our healthcare system. In addition to that, we are writing letters to both the Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal, and the Honourable Chairman of the RajyaSabha, urging their excellencies to take appropriate action against this unwarranted comment.”

They stated, “Moreover, we are apprehensive regarding the motive behind such question when Indian Ayush System is flourishing globally. The derogatory remarks camouflaged as question seems to be intended to demoralise the patronage experienced by the Ayush lovers globally, since the Ayush movement is shaping up as a revolution in order to decolonize the global healthcare sector with Indian Ayush medicines.”

They stated, “ Such remarks not only insult Ayush Sector and specifically homoeopathy, which is the most green system of medicine with lowest carbon footprint as per SDGs, but also to tarnish the reputation of Bengal which is hub of homoeopathic excellence and has the potential no less than Germany if only patronised by the State Government.”

Dr. Rathin Chakraborty specifically mentions that the Principles of Homoeopathy dates back to “Charak Samhita” and today globally acclaimed scientific peer journal “Nature” also published the topics on Homoeopathy.
